Founding and establishment![]() The dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles which took place on 10 October 2010 led to constitutional changes for the island of Curacao within the Kingdom of the Netherlands which in turn meant the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles Chess Federation. In order to safeguard the local chess sport within a new jurisdiction and in the best interest of all local players, immediate legal actions were taken founding the Curacao Chess Federation (FEDAKO : Federashon di Ahedres di Korsou) on 29 November of 2010.
FEDAKO as the national umbrella organization of the chess sport for the island of Curaçao is affiliated to the Curaçao Sports and Olympic Federation (FDOK) and the International Chess Federation (FIDE) whereby it adheres to the rules of the Olympic Charter, the Anti-Doping Code and the rules and decisions set forth by FIDE. However, the new constitutional status of Curacao remains somewhat controversial in the international sports arena and therefore Curacao still remains acknowledged officially as the Netherlands Antilles (AHO) by FIDE. Mission statement![]() FEDAKO sets out as its main goal to promote the sport of chess in all its forms which aligns with the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and in general carry out any series of other activities that may lead, contribute or can be conducive to its main goal, all this in the broadest sense of the word.

Denzil Philips | Board memberFrom the tender age of 15 Denzil has been in and around the local chess arena as a contributor filling various roles such as: treasurer, club assistant, tournament assistant/organizer, bulletin coordinator, webmaster, chaperone, arbiter's assistant and since 2015 as National Arbiter. As an IT technician Denzil looks forward to keeping FEDAKO moving forward in this digital era combining his passion for technology with his vast experience of the chess sport.
