We are excited to announce that the Fide Chess Olympiad Under 16 will be held in Barranquilla, Colombia from the 16th to the 23rd of August 2025. The Curaçao Chess Federation FEDAKO intends to send a team. The team will consist of 4 players (and 1 Captain), according the Olympiad U16 rules, minimum 1 girl and minimum 1 boy. To qualify for the team, players will get the chance to gather qualification points in 3 different tournaments: 1) All Star, 25th till 27th of April. This will count for 60%. 2) Fedako U16 Olympiad Qualification Tournament 1, 16th till 18th of May. This will count for 100%. 3) Fedako U16 Olympiad Qualification Tournament 2, 29th till 31st of May. This will count for 100%. The 4 players with the most total qualifying points will make it to the team. If there is no girl in the top 4 spot, the girl with the highest qualifying points will be selected for the 4th spot. Same for boys. If someone who qualified, but for whatever reason, can not make it to the Olympiad in Barranquilla, the next player with the highest qualifying points will be selected for substitution. We are very pleased that our local FIDE Master Mr. Alvin Smith has volunteered to train the selection for free! Fide will subsidize the hotel and 3 meals for the selection of 4 players with Captain, but everyone has to pay for their tickets. Fedako will help getting sponsors. Minors can only be sent by Fedako if at least one of their parents or legal guardian accompanies them. |
