Curacao participated in this years CARIFTA Hybrid 2026 tournament organised by the Confederation of Chess for Americas. The tournament counted with participation of over 300 players from various Caribbean nations such as: Aruba, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, St. Lucia, Cayman islands, US Virgin islands, Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis including Guyana and Suriname who all played online via the Tornelo chess tournament platform in groups of under age 8, 10, 12, 14 16, 18, OPEN and Women. The event kicked off Thursday evening with a technical meeting for Arbiters, Delegates and Organizers covering various important technical aspects, rules and regulations for partaking in the event followed by a test practice tournament Friday evening where organizers can setup and test their playing venues along with participants. The 9 rounds kicked off Saturday 11 July for youth players in the under 8 to under 18 age groups followed Sunday 12 July with the OPEN and Women groups at Frater Aurelio SBO school. Despite some hiccups during Friday's test practice event and Saturday throughout some rounds, Sunday's rounds went pretty smoothly for Curacao where 11 youth players took part in the U8 to U18 and 10 players in the OPEN & Women (some youth and adult players combined).
